Mark Cavendish wins tenth stage of Tour de France, closes in on wins report

VALENCE, France — Mark Cavendish received the tenth stage of the Tour de France in a mass dash Tuesday, placing himself inside one win of Eddy Merckx’s report haul of 34 at biking’s largest race.

Tadej Pogacar saved the race chief’s yellow jersey.

Again within the race for the primary time since 2018, Cavendish has been dominating the sprints this summer time, having already claimed three phases.

The sprinter from the Isle of Man, referred to as the Manx Missile, loved an ideal lead-out from his Deceuninck-Fast Step teammates and comfortably edged Wout van Aert and Jasper Philipsen.

Following two onerous phases within the Alps contested in horrible climate circumstances, Pogacar completed safely in the primary pack. The defending champion was on his guard within the final 20 kilometers on roads open to crosswinds and pushed onerous to stay on the entrance because the peloton cut up in small teams.

Pogacar has already stamped his authority on the race. He prevented the crashes that pushed some prerace favorites out of competition, asserted his authority in the course of the first time trial and attacked relentlessly within the mountains to open a 2:01 hole over his closest rival, Ben O’Connor of Australia.
