EDMONTON, Alberta — The Edmonton Oilers on Friday signed defenseman Darnell Nurse to an eight-year contract extension. The deal has a mean annual worth of $9.25 million and can start within the 2022-23 season.
The 26-year-old alternate captain appeared in all 56 video games for the Oilers in the course of the previous pandemic-shortened season.
He had 36 factors (16 targets, 20 assists) and ranked second amongst NHL defensemen in targets. He was second amongst Oilers defensemen in factors, assists, hits and blocked photographs.
Nurse was chosen seventh total by the Oilers within the 2013 draft and has appeared in 406 video games.
