Andrei Deniskin dealing with disciplinary motion from Ukrainian Hockey League after making a racist gesture towards opponent

HC Kremenchuk ahead Andrei Deniskin is dealing with disciplinary motion from the Ukrainian Hockey League after making a racist gesture towards American-born defenseman Jalen Smereck of HC Donbass, who’s Black.

Within the second interval of their sport on Sunday, Deniskin shouted at Smereck after which pantomimed unpeeling a banana and consuming it. He was ejected from the sport.

The UHL mentioned that disciplinary proceedings can be opened towards Deniskin, including that his conduct “is unacceptable throughout the framework of a civilized society.”

Donbass mentioned in a press release that it “strongly denies all types of discrimination” and that “racism has no place” in sports activities of society.

Deniskin posted an apology on Instagram, saying it was “a gesture that somebody can think about as an insult in race,” that his feelings acquired the very best of him, and that “I respect all folks no matter their race or nationality.”

Smereck, 24, is a Detroit native. He was previously a member of the Arizona Coyotes group and is taking part in in his first season abroad.
